This second issue of Róisín Dubh from Irish indie publisher Atomic Diner Comics dives back into the undead slaying action. However, while this issue does feature an engaging vampire slaying heroine, Maura McHugh joker s story also presents incisive commentary on the 19th c Ireland of its setting, the status of women of the period, along with a nod or two to the mythology buffs out there. This all combines to make an impressive story and it is early days yet.
The interior page story summary brings any latecomers to the book up to speed. Róisín Sheridan was travelling with her parents through the Irish countryside when their carriage was attacked by a monstrous creature. Thomas and Anna Sheridan were horribly murdered, their daughter forced to witness their deaths, with her own fate seemingly sealed. Instead Róisín finds herself swept up into an age-old conflict between gods and ancient magic, chosen to hunt down the fiend Abhartach. As a Neamh-Mharbh, effectively a Gaelic version of the classical vampire, the monster is only vulnerable to a sword of Yew wood and each of his victims are forced to serve him as thralls. Róisín s first task is to kill her own parents a second time.
Róisín is divided between two worlds. Appointed as the champion of Irish deities, she is accompanied by a shape-shifting talking bird named Fainche, who disguises itself as a brooch when others are in the vicinity, and is given a magic cloak to help her in her monster-slaying quest. However, her surviving family joker mansplain her unusual joker behavior away as being caused by her fragile female nature.
The funeral scene itself joker is the unquestioned highlight of the issue. Artist Stephen Byrne beautifully joker captures the isolation of the grieving Róisín, staring upward into the sky at free-flying birds while the hands of well-wishers grope at her, depicted in a series of inset panels. She is earthbound, trapped by her sadness, and even the supernatural Fainche is unable joker to give her any solace, admitting that it has no idea what waits after death. This is all powerfully delivered by the team of writer and artist. There is even a disturbing hint that Róisín is not all that different from the mind-controlled victims of her enemy.
It is not all sadness and misery though. Fainche is already an amusing companion for Róisín its sarcastic asides not a million miles away from Neil Gaiman s Matthew the Raven . Justice Butler and Charles casual chauvinism is devastating, but they also come across as laughably smug. Then there s the appearance of two stable horses named Othello and Desdemona that s one for the Shakespeare fans. Or Róisín s protest “ I NEVER faint “.

Arietty film books: The latest film from Hayao Miyazake and his Studio Ghibli is Arrietty the Borrower (Kari-gurashi no Arietti), which finally makes its U.S. debut this month. Last June, Viz announced four Arrietty books: The Art of Arrietty, an Arrietty picture svscomics book, and a two-volume set of Arrietty Film Comics. All are due out on Feb. 7, just in time to catch the eye of fans of the movie. But even if you never see it, these books particularly the art book are beautiful and well worth a look.
A Devil and Her Love Song (Akuma to Lovesong): Viz announced this manga at San Diego last year, and the first volume is scheduled svscomics for next month. It's the story of a sharp-tongued girl whose brutal honesty tends to alienate people. Originally published svscomics in Shueisha's Margaret magazine, it will be part of Viz's Shojo Beat imprint.
NonNonBa: NonNonBa, by the creator of Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths, won the prize for best album at the Angouleme International Comics Festival a few years ago (to the surprise of many observers, who didn't expect it to go to a manga). Manga-ka Shigeru Mizuki based the story on his memories of growing up in the 1930s, raised by his grandmother who introduced him to the world of spirits and yokai. Watch for it in April.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: This magical-girl manga has a classic shoujo manga storyline: Two teenage girls are granted magical powers, but in exchange, they must fight against evil witches who bring death and despair to the earth. Like similar manga ( Sailor Moon, Sugar Sugar Rune ), there are various magical objects that must be captured or avoided svscomics to make it all work. The three-volume series, which has been licensed by Yen Press and is due out in May, is adapted from the anime of the same name.
Until Death Do Us Part: Scheduled for a May release from Yen Press, Until Death Do Us Part is the action-packed story of a girl who can tell the future, and a blind swordsman who is protecting her from the evil corporation that wants to hold her captive and use her powers for their own ends. This series svscomics is published by Square Enix in Japan, and it is up to 15 volumes so far.
5 Centimeters Per Second: Vertical, Inc., announced at New York Comic Con that it would publish a manga adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's svscomics anime 5 Centimeters per Second, a wistful tale of lost love. Shinkai does beautiful, thoughtful work ( I interviewed him at New York Comic-Con); the book, which is illustrated by Yukiko Seike, is due out in June.
Attack svscomics on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin): When he announced this license at New York Comic-Con, Kodansha Comics editor-in-chief Dallas Middaugh described it as "kind of like The Walking Dead, only with giants." It's a survival/horror manga about a future in which 60-foot svscomics giants (known as Titans) rule the earth and the remnant of humanity hides away from them in a walled city. Attack on Titan is a huge best-seller in Japan, where over five million copies have been sold, and a live-action movie is in the works. The first volume is due out in June.
Jiu Jiu: Another NYCC announcement, Jiu Jiu is a shoujo manga that mixes up some common themes of love, loss, and human-animal hybrids that are difficult to control. It's the story of a girl who was born into a family of monster hunters and loses her older brother at a young age. She withdraws into her grief, but then she is given two wolf-boys to raise. They mature faster than she does, so in the time frame of the manga, they are going to the same high school she does. What could possibly svscomics go wrong? Viz has licensed this series and plans to release the first volume in July.
Sakuran: This one-volume manga by Moyoco Anno (Hataraki Man, Flowers and Bees) is the basis for the film of the same name. It's the story of a young brothel maid who is trained to be a courtesan and must deal not only with internal rivalries in the oiran but also with the problem of love. The manga will be complete in one 308-page volume and will be released in July.
The Heart of Thomas (Tôma no shinzô): This 1974 boys-love story by Moto Hagio is considered to be one of the classics of shoujo manga. Now Fantagraphics is publishing it in a deluxe, 480-page edition, translated by Matt Thorn (who credits the book with first getting him interested in shoujo manga) that is due out in August. For more on the book, and how Hagio developed the story, check out this interview for The Comics Journal several years ago.
That's a strong list with something for every taste high-school drama, classic boys-love, action and adventure. And that just takes us through August; stay tuned for more announcements

Yokai are the traditional monsters of Japan. They are the things that go bump in the night; the footsteps you hear behind you even though no one is there, or the creaking around the house late at night. They can take on any shape, be it human or animal, and even inanimate objects can come to life. Kitaro, the protagonist of this book, is one such being, and he uses his extraordinary powers to help both humans and yokai alike.
At the 2014 American Library Association Midwinter conventions, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced their Great Graphic Novels list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, 10 of them were manga. This title, Kitaro , was one of them. The series was originally published from 1966-1970; this omnibus hinata contains select stories from the 1967-1969 time period that are considered classics.
Kitaro of the Graveyard is the last of the Ghost Tribe yokai. He looks like a boy with a striped vest and a mess of hair that covers one eye. He is actually 350 years old, and his hair covers up his empty eye socket, where his father, the walking, talking eyeball, Medama-Oyaji stays. hinata Kitaro is well known in both the yokai and human communities for his extraordinary powers: He has a hair that can detect spiritual energy. He can flatten himself like a pancake, or burrow underground when he s in danger. He can shoot his hairs out like a porcupine and remotely command his vest, which is knitted from the hairs of his ancestors. With all of these powers, Kitaro seems like he would be a pretty cool guy.
And he is. Kitaro uses his powers to help both humans and yokai and to teach a lesson to those who would bother or harass others. Kitaro wants humans and yokai to live in peace, and to that end, he gives his assistance to humans hinata harassed by yokai for free. He won t take any compensation for his help, no matter what he has to go through. When dealing with bad or mischievous yokai, Kitaro isn t afraid to jump right in and face the troublemaker head on. He takes on not only traditional Japanese yokai but also Western monsters such as Dracula, hinata Frankenstein s Monster, and the Wolfman. He doesn t have to face them alone. Other yokai come when Kitaro asks for help, such as Konnaki Jiji, Sunakake Baba, and Ittamomen. One yokai that is more trouble than help is Nezumi Otoko, the half-human, half-yokai friend of Kitaro. He tries in his own way, but he usually ends up having to be pulled out of the fire by Kitaro, whether he wants it or not. Kitaro will take on any yokai and use all of the powers at his disposal to stop them and restore the balance between the human and yokai worlds.
When Kitaro deals with humans, he is more hands-off. He tends to give them the rope, and it s up to them whether they hang themselves. Two criminals steal some things from Kitaro s home and end up driving straight to their doom. Two haughty hinata men who wrangle with Kitaro take a train ride through the darkness. And when a boy finds Kitaro s baseball bat and won t return it, he and his team have to play for their souls to try to keep it. These stories have a comeuppance feel, as they are warnings to both the humans and the readers that there are some forces that aren t to be meddled with. This is best shown in “Creature From the Deep,” where Kitaro joins a scientific expedition to study an ancient creature discovered by a scientist named Yamada. Yamada wants all the fame and glory of the expedition for himself and tries to get rid of Kitaro, and. He eventually turns him into the monster and then tries to hunt him down so no one can discover what he has done. But all Kitaro thinks about is trying hinata to be normal again and see his family and friends. The story ends happily, but not until Yamada learns the error of his ways and does everything hinata he can to fix what he did.
While Kitaro is filled with monsters and eerie creatures, it keeps a light-hearted tone. The battles Kitaro has with the other yokai have a slapstick feel to them, and there s never any blood or wounds. Some of the interactions between humans and yokai play up the humor, such as when a Daruma yokai opens up a business in a building and other yokai come to do business with him, causing the other tenants and landlord to run away in fear. Every story ends with insects cheering Kitaro s victories with the cries of Ge ge ge ge. Shigeru hinata s art adds to the humor with its cartoo

Ten centuries have passed since the Earth and its solar system was destroyed by the Gauna, a massive, nearly spiderman 4 indestructible, yet barely sentient life form. Mankind escaped spiderman 4 out into space, in massive seed ships that carry the remnants of humanity who search for a new planet to call home, without the threat of the Gauna hanging over them. But it seems the Gauna are everywhere, as the lone seed ship, the Sidonia, is hunted by one.
At the 2014 American spiderman 4 Library Association Midwinter conventions, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced their Great Graphic Novels list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, 10 of them were manga. Knights of Sidonia volumes 1-2 were among them. This hard sci-fi series follows the young pilots who fight to protect their home from a seemingly impossible-to-defeat enemy.
Knights of Sidonia follows Nagate Tanikaze, a teen who has lived his whole life in the bowels spiderman 4 of the seed ship Sidonia spiderman 4 with his grandfather, training spiderman 4 in a simulator to pilot a garde, the individual spiderman 4 fighters that are used to defend the ship from the Gauna. While searching for food, Tanikaze finds his way to the inhabited part of the ship and is introduced to humanity as it now exists. Humans have evolved from their time in space. Most use photosynthesis for their nutrients, though they can eat normally as well. There is also a new gender, one that can be with either a man or a woman, and can carry their own clone. He is quickly made a garde pilot and is given the Tsugumori, a fighter from the last war, and he joins his fellow trainee pilots as the Gauna reappear.
Tanikaze is an interesting lead. Right from the start, he faces bullying and prejudice from the people spiderman 4 around him. Because he eats exclusively, he has a smell that he is harassed about through the first volume. He also has to put up with more traditional forms of bullying such as his things being taken, but none of these things seem to bother him. The only thing that matters to Tanikaze is the Tsugumori and being able to fly it to fight against the Gauna. He is more concerned about flying than what anything thinks or does to him.
Tanikaze has his supporters. Izana Shinatose is the first of the trainees to befriend Tanikaze. He seems to have crush on Tanikaze, because he gets upset when he sees Tanikaze with Hoshijiro, the Trainee Vice Rep. While Tanikaze doesn t seem interested in any kind of relationship, he does seem to develop feeling for Hoshijiro, especially after they spent half of the second volume alone together in his ship after hers is destroyed in battle. It creates a curious love triangle. Ms. Hiyama, the dorm matron tries to look at Tanikaze in a motherly way, as only a walking, talking grizzly bear with a claw for a hand can. Also supporting Tanikaze is the captain, who takes an immediate interest in him and is responsible for him becoming a garde pilot. Her interest in Tanikaze isn t explained yet, but she seems to have an unwavering faith in his ability.
The world of Knights of Sidonia is a realistic take on what long term space travel would be like. The whole structure of the Sidonia is geared toward function rather than form. Humanity has had to build its world around the infrastructure of the ship. Homes and shops sit between girders and piping. But there are still some parts where touches of earth can be seen and experienced. Water tanks hold underwater life that can be toured, and large areas of greenery, mostly reserved for the upper class, can make one forget they are on a spaceship. Still, resources remain of the utmost importance. Finding and retrieving things like fresh water still need to be done. The back half of the Sidonia also houses mineral resources that need to be replenished. Finding these resources can be just as dangerous as fighting the Gauna.
The perils of living and fighting in space are not glossed over in these two volumes. Not only are lives lost in the battles with the Gauna, it is made very clear what the Gauna do with their victims, which can make the loss of a comrade all the more traumatizing. The pilots of the gardes spiderman 4 know the risks they are taking and that they might not come back. When there are loses, the effects on those left behind are shown, no punches pulled.
The Gauna as an enemy are different from most antagonists. They don t have seem to have some big plot or some

A lot of the time, the manga industry is especially harsh on new talents; eager for another hit, the

Becoming a published manga artist or anime director is, in the Otaku circles, akin to royalty. And if you're lucky, you can parlay your Otaku cred to big-time fame and success. Rumiko Takahashi ( Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2 ), for example, still remains one of the richest and most successful manga authors - nay, comic book artists how to train your dragon - in the world. But, as with all things, there's a catch.
Perhaps you're familiar with the stereotype of the Japanese Work Ethic? You know, the one where individuals are expected to work over 12-hour days, sleep at their office, how to train your dragon and slavishly devote themselves to workaholism?
That's all just a misbegotten stereotype, of course, but there is a certain problem in the manga and anime industry, especially if you're lucky enough to work for one of the major weekly manga magazines like Shonen Jump. In those instances, you (and however many assistants you can afford) are tasked with creating up to 20 pages each and every week that need to be fully written, drawn, inked and edited. And that's once a week, every week, full stop, no breaks, no holidays, nothin'.
Suffice how to train your dragon to say that the pressure is on, and sometimes, people... crack. In fact, in the Shonen Jump "making-of-manga manga" Bakuman , there's an entire storyline how to train your dragon that tackles what happens when deadlines mount and the artists simply overwork themselves. Here are ten manga and anime artists who nearly worked themselves into an early grave!
Of course, a good way to alleviate some of the stress that comes from working on several high-profile, how to train your dragon serialized manga titles is to share the load a little bit, and that's always been a part of the once highly-secretive female comic artist collective known as CLAMP, creators of such finely stylized pop-culture weirdness as X , Cardcaptor Sakura , and Chobits. .
CLAMP how to train your dragon started out in the '80s as a fan-based independent how to train your dragon "doujinshi" group (self-published comics, in other words) that contained a whopping 11 members; since 1993, the CLAMP brand has dropped down to four. No worries, though, because how to train your dragon at least four members is better than just one, right?
Sure! Until 2011, when one of their members is experiencing sharp and immense pain in her lower back. Turns out, she has a rather severe lumbar compression fracture, , all thanks to the many hours hunched over a chair, straining her lower back, drawing like a madwoman.
CLAMP then issued a statement that they were letting the poor girl go for a half a year in order to recuperate, and the remaining how to train your dragon members were going to be taking things how to train your dragon a little bit easier, which meant some delays, and a few less pages per chapter, so that the other CLAMP artists also didn't end up working so hard and long that their bones cracked apart.
A lot of the time, the manga industry is especially harsh on new talents; eager for another hit, the endless manga mill is eager to devour as much content as physically possible, and young, eager artists are all too content to toss themselves into the fray, initially unaware of the daunting task that lays in front of them.
Witness, then, Katsura how to train your dragon Hoshino, who scored a big hit in Shonen Jump in 2004 with D.Gray-man , a lushly illustrated supernatural action series filled with big battles and wacky pseudoscience. Shonen Jump means you've hit the big time, and indeed, D.Gray-man has been published all over the world, spawned video and card games, an animated series and reams of merchandise.
The cost? Hoshino has had to take no fewer than four times off, including once when she contracted the nonovirus, an unspecified neck injury, and lots of swirling rumors about anemia, shattered wrists and other such frailties.
Despite this, D.Gray-man is still running to this day, though thankfully, perhaps in consideration to Hoshino's ailing health, the series made the switch from weekly how to train your dragon serialization to monthly in 2009. Here's to your continued success and ability to work and not die, Katsura Hoshino!
Sometimes, though, even monthly deadlines can prove to be near-fatal exercises. Witness the plight of Shoko Conami, a female manga artist responsible for Shinobi Life - released by Tokyopop when they still released things - and currently writing and drawing Shikabane Cherry for the manga magazine Monthly how to train your dragon Princess.
Late last year, Conami got a one-two-three punch of terrible, life-altering news: initially hospitalized for "extreme anemia," Conami then suffered a god damn heart attack a few days later. A month later, still in the hospital, Conami underwent surgery how to train your dragon for endometrial cancer.
Just in case you're ever feeling a little bit down on yourself or cursing your rotten luck, just remind yourself; at least you haven't suffered how to train your dragon a heart attack that led straight into cancer surgery. That's one hell of a month. On the upside,

Of the 75 good anime based on manga, shin splints here are the ones that could most profit from an additional anime season: Nanoha shin splints Vivid and/or Strikeforce, the entire thing is currently shin splints missing. Railgun, the most recent arc involving Misaki. Hayate no Gotoku, Athena's arc, the manga contest arc, or just more Hayate in general. The World God Only Knows, the gap between season 2 and 3, plus the time travel finale arc. Fate/Kaleid Liner Drei, in entirety. shin splints Dragon Ball, everything before the appearance of Raditz. Saki, the semifinals. Ranma 1/2, the last third of the manga. shin splints Bleach, shin splints the war with the quincies. Kenshin, Enishi. Sailor Moon, whatever portion shin splints of the manga Crystal doesn't cover will still need covering. Working, everything that comes after season shin splints 2 cuts off. Aishiteruze Baby, the ending. Claymore, start over starting with the war in the north and this time going to the end. Berserk, everything after Griffith's transformation. Yuru Yuri, everything past where season 2 ends. Shingeki no Kyojin, everything past where season 1 ends. Chihayafuru, everything past where season 2 ends. High School of the Dead, everything past where season 1 ends. Kitakubu, everything past where season 1 ends. Guyver, everything past where the TV season ends (arrival of the 12 Zoalords) shin splints Break Blade, everything past where Borcuse dies. Kenichi, everything past wherever the oav's stop covering. Nichijou, everything past where season 1 ends. Lucky Star, everything past where season 1 ends. Soul Eater, shin splints from episode shin splints 39 of the anime on, this time properly following the manga to the very end. Flame of Recca, from the end of the tournament until the actual ending. Bastard, this should really just be redone from scratch, this time following the manga strictly, and obviously much further than where the OAV's cut off. Gokukoku no Brynhildr, they should redo the 2nd half of this season because they totally mangled the manga adaption starting around there.  Give the series enough episodes shin splints to tell the story correctly. shin splints Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, they still haven't promised to adapt manga parts 4-8 yet. Sakura Trick, moar kissing! Mikakunin de Shinkoukei, everything past where season 1 ends. Btooom!, everything past where season 1 ends. To Love ru, the rest of the Darkness storyline, and a non-filler rendition of the original would help. H2, the vast majority of this tale hasn't shin splints yet been told. Gakuen Alice, same as H2. Alien Nine, may as well cover the ending, it's a short manga anyway. RG Veda, same as alien nine. Negima, this needs a total remake shin splints with a much larger length and budget covering the story from beginning to end. 39 shows aren't being handled right.  If I had to rank the top ten projects in need of support that don't seem to be getting any, I would say: 1.  Negima. 2.  Nanoha Vivid. 3.  Dragon Ball 4.  Bleach 5.  The World God Only Knows 6.  Claymore 7.  Ranma 1/2 8.  Hayate no Gotoku 9.  Kenichi 10.  Berserk All 39 shows could use help, but some of them still have a realistic chance of receiving support from anime studios down the line, like Fate or Railgun.  Others wouldn't improve much even if you did help them.  But these ten really stick in the craw.  It's hard to imagine any of them will get animated anymore, even though the benefits to fandom and art in general would be tremendous.  This is really the time for a charitable billionaire to step in and get this ball rolling.  We're leaving the greatest shin splints works of art of all time rotting in the fields here.  Whether these works operate at a loss or a profit doesn't matter -- we're talking shows that are better than Shakespeare or the Sistine Chapel here, and they were state supported.  Why not a Dragon Ball remake?

No.3- Blue Exorcist

No.3- Blue Exorcist
Basically, two teenagers work together to create a manga series in Weekly Shonen Jump. Mashiro, the one in the blue jacket, will get married to childhood crush Miho Azuki when he gets an anime! I will do a review of this soon, but i think ill do it as a series review, ranma as I’m already on volume 13 out of 20!
I’ve never felt so… engrossed in a manga before, but Bakuman just hit the ball outta the park. Its done by the same dynamic duo who brought us Death Note, and the artist also draws World Trigger! There’s lots of emotional moments in this manga, aswell as parts where you’re egging the cast on. Every member of this series is loveable and just so cool!!! Aswell as this, there’s also loads of fictional manga in Bakuman which should totally get a real manga! Here’s a few pages, as it’s MY FAVORITE MANGA EVER!!!!!

Star Kids Home is a foster home for kids who for one reason or another, have been given up by their parents. The children range from toddler to middle school and come from different situations and with different problems, but one thing they share is Sunny, an old car that doesn t run except in the kids imagination.
At the 2014 American Library Association Midwinter conventions, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced their Great Graphic Novels list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, 10 of them were manga. Sunny , a deluxe hardback title was included. This series follows a group of children dealing with life in a foster home through stories of their everyday lives. It is also sort of autobiographical and is based on Taiyo Matsumoto s childhood.
Sunny tells the story of the kids of the foster home Star Kids Home. The children have been left at the home for various reasons and must learn to cope with a new living situation, new school, and a new life after seemingly being abandoned by their parents. Life at the Home isn t harsh, but it comes across as chaotic at times with so many people doing different things at the same time. The house has seen better days, as has the old yellow Sunny 1200 that sits in the back of the house. This is the kids’ clubhouse where no adults are allowed. It is where they can escape their sometimes sad and lonely everyday world and go anyplace or be anything they want. They can go to outer space, the joker drive in a big race, or just go home.
There isn t an ongoing narrative or a single protagonist for this volume. Each chapter focuses on one child or tells a story from his or her perspective. Sei is the new boy to the home. He is smart and quiet, but he doesn t try to fit in. He doesn t like it at the home and wants to leave. Haruo is a white-haired boy the same age as Sei. He s a bit wild, taking the joker off into the woods nearby instead of going to school and spending all of his time in the Sunny, dreaming of being other people the joker and going to different the joker places. Junsuke, also Sei and Haruo s age, likes shiny things and is prone to taking things he likes and then claiming not to know how he got them. Junsuke has a baby brother, Shosuke, a toddler the joker who can get around. Two of the girls at the home, Megumu the joker and Kiko, are about the same age. They stick together and stick up for each other. Megumu is the more sensitive of the two. Kenji is the oldest, in his last year in middle school, and likes to smoke and keep his porn magazines in the glove compartment of the Sunny. Taro is a man of indeterminate age with an undisclosed mental issue. He is usually showing the joker sitting on the grass outside the home, singing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”
Through each chapter, we learn something new about the kids: their hopes and fears, their dreams and desires. What I really liked about these chapters is that nothing is stated explicitly. The stories are told through the kids’ actions and their own words. We are never told that Junsuke and Shosuke s mother is in the hospital, but there are a couple of panels after Junsuke the joker visited her, where he tells the others that she is better and has color in her cheeks. The characters the joker are developed through small, subtle moments that tell more about them than any exposition could. We aren t told Sei is smart, but he s shown helping Megumu with her homework. He works on a puzzle with some of the workers, and knows a lot of terms for mountain climbing. We aren t told Haruo cares about the other kids at the home, but he is shown taking on some bullies who start to bother Junsuke. He helps Megumu put a dead cat to rest when he sees how upset it makes her. Through their actions and expressions, their emotions can be seen in the panels.
And there are plenty of emotions to be felt. We see the kids when they are happy, sad, worried, and playful. But running underneath all the different emotions is an overall sense of melancholy. These kids have had their home life disrupted and are thrown in with a bunch of strangers. While they all cope and try to make the best of their situations, there is still a sense of sadness that permeates the volume. The kids have fun, and good things happen in their lives, but there is a feeling that the happiness is fleeting. There s no real sense of hope through the volume until the last story, which features Shosuke and Taro. S

Every week, Viz Media and the New York Times posts the top ten bestselling books. For Viz Media, it is the bestsellers on their site, Vizmanga.com. The New York Times gets their numbers of print sales from retailers. Offered tsubasa amami here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis tsubasa amami of the activity.
Vizmanga.com for the week of August 19, 2014. Food Wars! Vol. 3 One-Punch Man Vol. 4 Lucky Star Vol. 1 Chibi Vampire Vol. 11 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Vol. 13 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Vol. 14 D N ANGEL Vol. 11 Fate/stay Night Vol. 7 Bleach Vol. 61 5 Naruto Vol. 66 2
New digital releases wipe nearly all the new print titles out from last week. Only Bleach and Naruto survived, and they only just barely scrapped by, taking the last two spots. All the rest of the list are either digital only or digital firsts. I really tsubasa amami wish I knew how JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure kept doing the double taps. Are all JoJo fans in sync with each other psychically? Lucky Star is a new digital only rescue from Bandai. It’s a four panel series about four girls and their more otaku ways. I had a hard time getting through the first volume. Actually, I never did. I found it really boring. But, your mileage may vary.
New York Times Bestseller tsubasa amami List for the week ending August tsubasa amami 23, 2014. Monster Musume Vol. 4 Deadman Wonderland Vol. 4 2 Attack on Titan Vol. 1 7 Attack on Titan: Before the Fall Vol. 2 Attack on Titan: No Regrets Vol. 1 2 Fairy Tail Vol. 41 2 Food Wars! Vol. 1 1 Dragonar Academy Vol. 3 1 Attack on Titan Vol. 2 Rosario+Vampire Season II Vol. 13 2
No big surprise with what’s on top. Seven Seas entertainment’s Monster Musume takes it with ever new volume. And can sometimes even hold on to it for while. But with the debut of a new Attack on Titan title, Before the Fall vol. 2 , it may not be able to hold it for long. At least it’s not alone, with Dragonar Academy holding tsubasa amami over from last week. Viz Media kept some of their titles on the list, but not the ones you’d expect. Bleach got booted completely, but Food Wars! Deadman Wonderland , and surprisingly, Rosario+Vampire Season II held on. Kodansha holds the most titles as usual, four of them being Titan titles. We’ll see if the Titans can keep holding on, with this week being a big week for Viz Media and their shonen and shojo titles.

Every week, Viz Media and the New York Times posts the top ten bestselling books. For Viz Media, it is the bestsellers on their site, Vizmanga.com. The New York Times gets their numbers of print sales from retailers. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.
Vizmanga.com didn’t post at top ten this week, so no activity from them. However, I did discover I missed a month of the Nielson Book Scan Top 20 for July, so I will include it as well as August.
New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending September 6, 2014. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds Vol. 6 One Piece Vol. 72 Attack on Titan Vol. 13 2 Nisekoi! False Love Vol. 5 Pokemon Adventures Vol. 24 Time Killers: Kazue Kato Short Story Collection Monster Musume oliver queen Vol. 4 4 Skip Beat Vol. 33 Attack oliver queen on Titan Vol. 1 4 High School DxD Vol. 2 6
Viz Media, which had been purged from the list last week returns with a vengeance, taking 6 of the 10 spots, including the top two titles. Only the Attack on Titan vol 13 is able to survive the onslaught and hang in the top 5. Seven Seas Entertainment’s Monster Musume survived as did Yen Press’ oliver queen High School DxD , the only volumes from each publisher to remain. Kodansha’s only other title is of course oliver queen Attack on Titan Vol. 1 . I don’t oliver queen think it’s possible to knock that thing off!
The Nielson oliver queen Bookscan Top 20 is a monthly ranking of graphic novels sold in retail, in brick and mortar stores. Manga is included in this ranking. For the month of July, 2014 , six manga made the list.
Naruto moves up six spots from June to take the top spot in July. Four of the Attack on Titan volumes from last month survive and are joined by newcomer Attack on Titan No Regrets . Even through comic trades and graphic novels ruled Bookscan in July, Kodansha’s titanic hit doesn’t let anyone forget it’s around.
3. Naruto Vol. 66 5. Attack on Titan Vol. 1 7. Attack on Titan No Regrets Vol. 1 8. Attack on Titan Vol. 13 9. Maximum Ride Vol. 8 12. Attack on Titan Vol. 2 13. Rosario + Vampire Season II Vol. 13 17. Monster Musume oliver queen Vol. 4 19. Bleach Vol. 61
Naruto only gets the top spot for one month, but it’s also joined by fellow Viz Media titles Bleach Vol. 61 and Rosario + Vampire Season II Vol 13 , which spent some time on the NYT Bestseller list in August. Yen Press gets on title on the list with its perennial favorite Maximum Ride , and Seven Seas represents with the monster girls of Monster Musume . Attack on Titan gets a nice little run with No Regrets oliver queen getting sandwiched between oliver queen the first and most recent volume released. There’s a lot of Levi goodness in the bottom half of that sandwich! oliver queen

Vizmanga.com for the week of August 26, 2014 Food Wars Vol. 3 Chibi Vampire marvel comics Vol. 12 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3 Vol. 15 JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3 Vol. 16 Future Diary Vol. 5 D N Angel Vol. 12 Fate/Stay marvel comics Night Vol. 8 One Punch Man Vol. 4 6 St. Lunatic High School Vol. 1 Trinity Blood Vol. 4
Digital-only titles absolutely dominate this week with new volumes and some new titles. marvel comics Only two titles survived from last week, Food Wars and One Punch Man . JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure marvel comics Part 3 finishes its release just in time for Part 1 to start. Maybe we’ll be seeing a triple-tap next week. St. Lunatic High School is another Tokyopop rescue title. It is only 2 volumes long and is by Majiko, the artist who did the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion marvel comics manga adaptation. I read the first volume marvel comics of this series, and really didn’t care for it. I don’t like the “being poor is funny” trope, so I never picked up the second volume back then, and I won’t now.
New York Times Bestseller List for the Week Ending August marvel comics 30, 2014 Attack on Titan Vol. 13 Sword Art Online Aincrad marvel comics Vol. 2 Monster Musume Vol. 4 2 High School DxD Vol. 2 Attack on Titan Vol. 1 2 Maximum Ride Vol. 8 No. 6 Vol. 8 Say I Love You Vol. 3 Attack on Titan No Regrets Vol. 1 4 Attack on Titan Vol. 2 1
Monster Musume loses its spot at the top as a new Attack on Titan appears. There are still 4 titles marvel comics volumes on the list, but Before the Fall seems to have fallen off. Yen Press returns with a new Sword Art Online Aincrad light novel, High School DxD , and Maximum Ride . I wonder how well this perennial favorite will do against the Titans. Besides a new volume of the Attack on Titan main series, Kodansha also has new No. 6 and Say I Love You volumes. I really enjoyed the first two volumes marvel comics of Say I Love You , and am looking marvel comics forward to what’s going to happen next.

Attack on Titan centers around the adventures of Eren Yeager , his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman ,

The New York Times Newspaper has listed the top Manga for the US week ending Sept. 6th. If you aren’t reading any of these, get to your local comic store and pick up a copy. Some of them listed are very familiar indeed, especially since we used to play Yu-Gi-Oh when we were kids.
Kuoh Academy ( 駒王学園 , Kuō Gakuen ) is a former all-girls school youji that has recently turned co-ed, but it has a secret. Unknown to normal humans, angels, youji fallen angels and devils comprise part of the student population. One of these students, Issei Hyodo , is a lecherous second-year human student who lives a peaceful life. After an ordinary school day, Issei is suddenly asked out on a date by a girl named Yuma Amano . After their date, Yuma brings Issei to a local park and makes a startling request. She reveals herself as Raynare, a fallen angel, and she tries to kill him. Using his summoning card, Rias Gremory , a buxom third-year student at Kuoh Academy, revives him. Issei wakes up the next morning, thinking that the events that occurred were all just a dream. Immediately after being attacked by another fallen angel and waking up, he notices Rias naked in his room. Rias reveals to Issei her true identity as a devil and says that as a result of his death at the hands of Yuma, she has reincarnated him as a devil, becoming his new master in the process.
Attack on Titan centers around the adventures of Eren Yeager , his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman , and their friend Armin Arlert . After the wall which protects their hometown of Shinganshina youji is breached by Titans, Eren watches in horror as one of them eats his mother . Vowing to kill all Titans, youji Eren enlists in the military along with his friends.
Kyoko Mogami, is a sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro Fuwa, but is betrayed by him. Having spent a large part of her childhood at Shotaro’s parents’ inn, she learned a great deal about hostelry and other such jobs. Shotaro, not wishing to take over his parents’ business, asks Kyoko to run away with him to Tokyo, leaving high school youji and her life in Kyoto Prefecture behind to help him pursue youji a career in music.
The Japanese government has for years kept a secret: mythical creatures like centaurs, harpies and lamia are real. Three years before the start of this story, youji the government published the existence of these creatures and passed a legal bill, the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act”. Since then, the ‘liminals’ have become a part of human society, living with ordinary families like foreign exchange students and au-pair visitors, but with other duties and restrictions (the main one being that liminals are forbidden to harm humans and vice versa).
Kurusu Kimihito did not volunteer for the exchange program, but when Ms. Smith by mistake delivers the very scared and embarrassed Miia to his door, he does not have the heart to send her away and they start living together. As the story continues, Kurusu meets and gives shelter to other females, each of a different liminal species. Some arrive more or less by accident, some are forced upon him by Ms. Smith – or force themselves in, and it does not take long for him to find himself youji in a hectic environment where he struggles to live in harmony with his new housemates while dealing with their constant advances. The situation youji takes on a whole new twist after he is told that he is able to marry one of the girls.
Nisekoi follows high school youji students Raku Ichijo , the son of a leader in the yakuza faction Shuei-Gumi, and Chitoge Kirisaki , the daughter of a boss in a rival gang known as Beehive. They unexpectedly meet when Chitoge hops a wall and knees Raku in the face. After she runs off, Raku realizes he has lost his locket which was given to him by his childhood sweetheart with whom he made a secret promise. youji After discovering Chitoge is a new transfer youji student in his class, he forces her to help him look for the locket. During the search, they begin to dislike each other.
Upon returning home, Raku learns that the Shuei-Gumi and Beehive gangs have agreed to settle their feud by pairing their leaders’ children. Raku learns that his girlfriend-to-be is none other than Chitoge. For the next three years, they must pretend to be in a relationship to maintain peace between the gangs.
This youji turns out to be quite a challenging task, not only because of their hatred for one another, but also because Raku has a crush on another schoolmate, Kosaki Onodera , whom he secretly wishes was the girl who bears the key to his locket. Various developments complicate the situation, including Chitoge’s over-protective bodyguard, a female hitman, a girl who claims to be Raku’s youji fiancée, and the existence of multiple keys.
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy , a young man whose body gains the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit, youji and his d

Touted as a holy city, No. 6 is one of six utopias built for the survivors of a terrible world war that left the Earth decimated in most places. While everything seems perfect aquaman on the surface, things aquaman aren t what they seem. Shion, a teenage boy, begins to question the perfection of No. 6 and finds himself on the run from the authorities. He is forced aquaman to leave the city and escape into the West Block, the trash dump of No. 6.
At the 2014 American Library Association Midwinter conventions, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services aquaman Association announced their Great Graphic Novels list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, aquaman 10 of them were manga. No. 6 is sci-fi story set in a dystopian future where the perfect city may not be so perfect, and danger lurks both outside and inside the city s walls.
No. 6 starts out introducing Shion with his life set to go on the elite track, where he will work in a lab and want for nothing. On his 12th birthday, he lets out a rare burst of emotion in the chaos of a storm that lets in Rat, a boy who has escaped from a correctional facility. Shion helps Rat, but his act of kindness is discovered and he and his mother are forced to leave their home in Chronos, the elite area of No. 6, and move to Lost Town, for regular folks, where his mother opens a bakery. Four years later, Shion is working in the Forest Park Administration, monitoring the clean-up robots, when a body is discovered. When it seems the authorities are covering up the cause of death, Shion expresses his doubts about the city. His work partner aquaman then suddenly dies, and Shion is made a suspect. The only person who can help him is Rat, who rescues him from the authorities and whisks him away to West Block, a rundown section outside of No. 6, where life isn t just hard, it’s dangerous: aquaman Making aquaman the wrong move or trusting aquaman the wrong person can get you killed.
Shion isn t your typical dystopian lead. He is easygoing and rather naive. He doesn t resent the system when he and his mother lose their elite status, and he is happy with his life in Lost Town. Being dragged into West Block forces him to see another world, where trust and friendship are mocked and scorned, but he doesn t give in to the cynicism all around him. His compassion and more trusting nature do get him into scrapes, but they also helps him to win over other cynics. While he is hunted by the authorities of No. 6 for something he didn t do, he still wants to help save the people inside the city from a deadly parasitic bee that also nearly killed him.
Shion s mirror image is Rat. His background is completely unknown, but he knows how to live in the West Block, and even when Shion first meets him, he already knows how to defend himself and even kill if necessary. aquaman Rat s home is filled with printed books, something not found in No. 6, with a lot of classic literature and poetry. He is good with micro tech, and he creates robotic rats that can be used for surveillance and intelligence gathering. He is also an actor and singer, using the stage name of Eve. Rat also hates No. 6 with a passion and wants to see it razed to the ground with everyone inside.
These differences create an interesting aquaman dynamic between the two main characters. They had very different upbringings, and they hold almost opposing aquaman beliefs, especially about what should be done about No. 6, but there is a fascination they have with each other. aquaman Rat doesn’t aquaman believe in most of what Shion says, but he has developed a soft spot for him, causing him to take risks he wouldn’t before. Shion is captivated by Rat and will defend him violently when he thinks aquaman he is being insulted. It is a complex relationship that will only grown in interest as the story progresses.
Other regulars in the cast include Shion’s mother Karen and his childhood friend Safu inside No. 6, and Dogkeeper and Rikiga in the West Block. All support Shion in their own ways. Dogkeeper seems to be warming up to Shion, even through she finds his trustworthiness as pointless as Rat. Rikiga was a reporter who was friends with Shion’s mother, aquaman and she directs Shion to him for additional assistance. Safu is an elite who stayed friends with Shion after he and his mother were exiled because of Shion’s kindness towards her. She actually loves him, but Shion is a bit too clueless to get it.

In a boys boarding school in mid-20th Century Germany, fourteen-year-old Thomas Werner falls from a lonely pedestrian overpass to his death, but not before mailing blue exorcist a letter to another boy at the school, Juli. Thomas s death causes a stir at the school just as Thomas s letter throws Juli into an emotional turmoil. And if that isn t enough, blue exorcist a new boy shows up at the school who looks exactly like Thomas.
At the 2014 American Library Association Midwinter conventions, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced their Great Graphic Novels list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, ten were manga. Heart of Thomas is a seminal work in shojo manga and an early example of the popular boys -romance shounen-ai genre. This compelling story of complex relationships and emotions will draw in readers and keep them captivated until the end.
The Heart of Thomas is the story of the lives of several boys at Schlotterbach, a boys’ boarding school in mid-20th-century Germany. It covers only a short period of time, roughly from Easter break to summer break. While there is a rather large ensemble blue exorcist cast, the story really focuses on Juli, a prefect at the school, and the new transfer student Erich Frühling, who is the almost exact double of Thomas Werner, another boy who died only a few weeks before Erich s arrival.
Even before Erich s arrival, the relationships are complex. Juli is cold and studious, concerned blue exorcist only with school and following the rules. He appears to be the perfect blue exorcist student in both his studies and his personal life. His roommate, Oskar, blue exorcist is in many ways Juli s opposite. He comes off as carefree, skipping class and smoking when the teachers aren’t around. He cares for Juli and tries to help him in any way he can. Juli has a sort of rival in Herbert, the head of one of the dorm rooms, and fans in Liebe and Adam. Enter Erich, whose sweet face belies an aggressive and angry demeanor. His arrival sends the school in turmoil as his often blunt and baiting words start fights. He doesn’t want to be at the school and is very vocal about it. Juli is the most antagonistic toward Erich, because of his strong physical resemblance to Thomas. Juli wanted to forget Thomas, and Erich has become an everyday reminder to him.
Juli s proclaimed hatred of Thomas and his transference of that hatred to Erich is the central mystery of the story. Juli is hiding a deep, dark secret that makes him believe he cannot be loved. Slowly, through the digging of both Erich and Oskar, the layers are peeled away and Juli s mystery is revealed. Along the way, feelings are proclaimed, relationships are mended, and secrets are exposed. Hagio masterfully brings all these elements together makes the story both compelling and powerful. blue exorcist It takes its time building up, but once the story is completed, it is difficult to forget.
The Heart of Thomas works in several different themes, many revolving around the concept of love. It asks the questions, what does it mean to love or be loved? What will we do to be loved or to help the one we love? Is it okay to accept another s love? While asking all these questions, Hagio doesn t put any conditions on them. All of the main characters are boys who are asking these questions and having these feelings toward one other, but never once is it suggested blue exorcist that these feelings are wrong. The feelings are portrayed blue exorcist so genuinely that gender becomes meaningless, and just seeing the characters happy are all that s important in the end.
Some people might find aspects of this title to be troubling, such as the prejudices of pre-war Germany directed toward those who didn’t fit the prevailing ideal. Suicide, abuse and torture all become big components of the story, but none of these elements are included arbitrarily or without merit. They all add to the story by building the background and characters into richer, fuller world.
The Heart of Thomas is a mosaic of emotions build around rich and compelling characters. The story is complex and the mysteries it presents captivating. It is all told through an older, more simplistic art style that has it own charm. It can be silly or serious, but it always complements the story. Fantagraphics has given this edition a beautiful hard bound cover with color page inserts in certain chapters. It also includes an introduction by translator Matt Thorn. T

In a small seaside town there is a legend: Once every 60 years the Yashiro family receives a mermaid s egg. They protect thanos and care for it, and in exchange, the mermaids give the town calm seas and good fishing. The tradition is threatened now by a large commercial developer that wants to turn the town into a resort town. The development divides the town, turning friends against friends and even father against son. But for Yosuke Yashiro, it becomes a race against time to fulfill his family s promise made to the mermaids ages ago.
At the 2014 American Library Association Midwinter convention, YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced their Great Graphic Novels for Teens list for 2014. Of the 78 titles listed, ten were manga. Tropic of the Sea is a single-volume title created by the late Satoshi Kon, who is well-known for his work as an amine director. It is the first of his manga works to be officially thanos translated and released in the West. Tropic of the Sea is a coming of age story with action, mystery and a touch of the supernatural.
Tropic of the Sea occurs over one summer in the middle of the growing chaos in the town of Ada. Yosuke is fulfilling his duty of changing the water for the mermaid egg when a TV crew appears thanos with his father, Yozo Yashiro, who is priest of the shrine, to show off the egg. This starts an argument between Yozo and Yosuke s grandfather over the use of the land and the revelation of the mermaid s egg to the world.
Yosuke doesn t see these things a problem at first. He studies for college exams, goes out with his friend Tetsu on Tetsu s boat and hangs out with Nami, an older girl who has returned after living in Tokyo for 5 years. He isn t concerned with the aggressive development being pushed by the Ozaki Group and its president Kenji Ozaki. Their development is ambitious, looking to modernize the small fishing village into a resort town. But his plans and work have the local fishermen up in arms about losing their livelihood and the protection of the mermaids. Previous friendships are torn apart over the development and the mermaid legend. Yozo never truly believed in the mermaids, but Yosuke s mother did, instilling much of that belief in him as well. Even though he scoffs at times, deep down Yosuke does believe.
He does need a little nudging, of course. As the time to return the egg grows closer, Yosuke starts seeing things out at sea. Things thanos only he sees at first. Small reminders of the promise his family made. He doubts them at first, but soon they become impossible to ignore. Yosuke becomes determined to return the egg, just as Ozaki is determined to keep it for himself. It s a dramatic conclusion, but with a happy ending.
I really enjoyed Tropic of the Sea . The characters are complex with realistic motivations. thanos Ozaki is set up as the bad guy, destroying the natural beauty of the area for his resort and wanting to keep the egg for himself. But he turns out to be more reasonable at the end, especially when confronted thanos by the extraordinary. Yosuke s father too, is portrayed as pushy and uncaring of the fishermen s concerns, but his personal loss has motivated him towards the modernization, even at the cost of the promise. Yosuke has the greatest growth though, as he moves from just floating thanos through life to realizing the importance of the promise thanos his family made. His drive to get the egg back and return it is remarkable, as are the extremes he ll go to in order to succeed.
I really liked how Kon handled the mermaids. They are never shown completely. Only little glimpses are given at first, and only to Yosuke. But as their desperation grows, it soon affects not just Yosuke but all the fishermen and then the whole town. Even when they are finally shown, they are kept otherworldly. They don t look human, but neither are they unrecognizable as mermaids. There is never a question as to whether the mermaids are real, only whether Yosuke will step up and take the responsibility thanos to keep the promise to them.
Kon s art has a realistic feel, with little comedic touches here and there, such as Yosuke s dog Fujimaru getting his tail stepped on in a crowd and the cloud of dust he leaves behind as he runs away. Most of the people are drawn realistically, and everyone thanos is recognizably different. There is a lot of nice detail in the background and even

Acer intros revamped desktops, 23-inch multitouch display for kids with ginormous dorm originally a

Last week, Acer unveiled a handful of back-to-school laptops, and today, the outfit is out of gear for children who have a teensy bit more room in the dorms. The company just trotted out a couple of desktops, tsubasa along with the terrible 23-inch T231H multitouch monitor. Both towers have a staid black chassis with Acer's clear.fi media streaming software on board. Of the two, the M-series (pictured) is clearly for power users, with Core i3 and quad-core AMD Athlon II x4 processor options, 6GB RAM, 1TB of hard drive space, optional discrete graphics, and a storage tray on top housing four USB 2.0 sockets and headphone and mic ports. The X-series, meanwhile, tsubasa has a trimmer, more compact design, and a modest spec list with Intel Pentium Dual-Core and AMD Athlon II X4 processors, 4 GB RAM, and integrated graphics. As for that 1080p display, it has a 80,000: 1 contrast ratio and drop between a 5-degree and 60-degree angle - not unlike what rotatable HP all-in-one that came out earlier this year. They are all up for grabs now, with the M-and X-series starts at $ 500 and $ 398, respectively, and the monitor gets $ 330 Full PR after the break.
