I want to be a stone in the forest by throwing not agree with mother tongue education for our children gaara in other cultures as Afrikaans or English speaking gaara not. The reason I say so is that there is not enough study material guide available in these languages. Start them off in Gr1 English as medium of instruction, then they at least have a better chance of success by the time they are in grade 4!
Currently they are completely dazed in Grade 4 and struggling tremendously to adapt to the demands of the curriculum and wap! in English. If there was support in most cases from the house, it was a different story, but conditions are difficult and there are not resources and skills available to support the home.
So they gave us Gr1 English we can work wonders and performance and success increase dramatically. The most precious years to 10 years of age may be used for this second gaara language, English as a teaching language is capturing so successful learning has to take place of Gr4 off.
Welcome Rieksie: wink: I completely understand your view. I work daily with guys who speak other languages at home and school in English (or Afrikaans). It is sad to see that not all make the grade because of language deficiencies. Would not it be wonderful if there guides, schools and education for each language was.
