The New York Times Newspaper has listed the top Manga for the US week ending Sept. 6th. If you aren’t reading any of these, get to your local comic store and pick up a copy. Some of them listed are very familiar indeed, especially since we used to play Yu-Gi-Oh when we were kids.
Kuoh Academy ( 駒王学園 , Kuō Gakuen ) is a former all-girls school youji that has recently turned co-ed, but it has a secret. Unknown to normal humans, angels, youji fallen angels and devils comprise part of the student population. One of these students, Issei Hyodo , is a lecherous second-year human student who lives a peaceful life. After an ordinary school day, Issei is suddenly asked out on a date by a girl named Yuma Amano . After their date, Yuma brings Issei to a local park and makes a startling request. She reveals herself as Raynare, a fallen angel, and she tries to kill him. Using his summoning card, Rias Gremory , a buxom third-year student at Kuoh Academy, revives him. Issei wakes up the next morning, thinking that the events that occurred were all just a dream. Immediately after being attacked by another fallen angel and waking up, he notices Rias naked in his room. Rias reveals to Issei her true identity as a devil and says that as a result of his death at the hands of Yuma, she has reincarnated him as a devil, becoming his new master in the process.

Kyoko Mogami, is a sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro Fuwa, but is betrayed by him. Having spent a large part of her childhood at Shotaro’s parents’ inn, she learned a great deal about hostelry and other such jobs. Shotaro, not wishing to take over his parents’ business, asks Kyoko to run away with him to Tokyo, leaving high school youji and her life in Kyoto Prefecture behind to help him pursue youji a career in music.
The Japanese government has for years kept a secret: mythical creatures like centaurs, harpies and lamia are real. Three years before the start of this story, youji the government published the existence of these creatures and passed a legal bill, the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act”. Since then, the ‘liminals’ have become a part of human society, living with ordinary families like foreign exchange students and au-pair visitors, but with other duties and restrictions (the main one being that liminals are forbidden to harm humans and vice versa).
Kurusu Kimihito did not volunteer for the exchange program, but when Ms. Smith by mistake delivers the very scared and embarrassed Miia to his door, he does not have the heart to send her away and they start living together. As the story continues, Kurusu meets and gives shelter to other females, each of a different liminal species. Some arrive more or less by accident, some are forced upon him by Ms. Smith – or force themselves in, and it does not take long for him to find himself youji in a hectic environment where he struggles to live in harmony with his new housemates while dealing with their constant advances. The situation youji takes on a whole new twist after he is told that he is able to marry one of the girls.
Nisekoi follows high school youji students Raku Ichijo , the son of a leader in the yakuza faction Shuei-Gumi, and Chitoge Kirisaki , the daughter of a boss in a rival gang known as Beehive. They unexpectedly meet when Chitoge hops a wall and knees Raku in the face. After she runs off, Raku realizes he has lost his locket which was given to him by his childhood sweetheart with whom he made a secret promise. youji After discovering Chitoge is a new transfer youji student in his class, he forces her to help him look for the locket. During the search, they begin to dislike each other.
Upon returning home, Raku learns that the Shuei-Gumi and Beehive gangs have agreed to settle their feud by pairing their leaders’ children. Raku learns that his girlfriend-to-be is none other than Chitoge. For the next three years, they must pretend to be in a relationship to maintain peace between the gangs.
This youji turns out to be quite a challenging task, not only because of their hatred for one another, but also because Raku has a crush on another schoolmate, Kosaki Onodera , whom he secretly wishes was the girl who bears the key to his locket. Various developments complicate the situation, including Chitoge’s over-protective bodyguard, a female hitman, a girl who claims to be Raku’s youji fiancée, and the existence of multiple keys.
